Hello all, welcome to this new blog.
This project has been designed to gain student feedback on their career management, and give tutors feedback on what career management competences to include within programmes and at the same time it is giving you a great opportunity to think about your own career management and future plans.
I hope you are as committed to the project now as when you signed up! As you drive the research forward issues will arise and you may have questions to ask. The idea of this blog is to give you space to raise those issues and questions and hear what others on the project might say in response.
You can also use it to update us all on your progress.
So let's hear from you!
Best wishes,
Celia
The blog idea is a good one, I may see about getting the link posted to blackboard. It may just be me, but I find the aeroplane wing a bit distracting from the content.
ReplyDeleteI announced the project in my leadership lecture yesterday. Hoping to generate some more interest over the next few days by approaching people personally. Will keep everyone updated.
O.
Hi Oliver,
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you. Good idea to have it on Blackboard.
Interesting comment on the aeroplane wing, could this imply 'going places'?
Let us know what reaction you are getting from students and how you are persuading them.
Celia

Zoe and I have had another e-mail sent about completing the questionnaire but also about the focus groups, however so far we haven’t had any replies to the focus groups. We are speaking to the second years tomorrow so hopefully then we will get more interest shown then

Hi,
ReplyDeleteIts great you are sticking at it! It takes a lot of persuasion to get people to do things like this, that maybe are important to you but not them. All you can do is repeat the message that they are helping to improve the student experience and their feedback is really valuable!!
Celia
We've had virtually no response from our e-mail and from talking to the groups about the focus groups, so we have spoken to Heidi and we are hoping to conduct the focus group at the end of our research methods lecture just before easter, fingers crossed people will actually participate. It really has been difficult getting people to partake in this research

Hi all we now have 146 responses. I will send out a summary for each programme next week. this will present the priority areas for development and the comments that have been made. The feedback will cover the main programmes ie Business, Zoology and biology, events management and early years rather than by individual courses as the numbers are too small in some instances to tell us much.

Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteZoe and I conducted our focus group on Friday, and it went really well. A lot better than expected.
We originally sent out an e-mail to find people interested in taking part, but we didnt get much of a response. We spoke to our lecturer and managed to get a slot at the end of our lecture, so our focus group was a lot larger than we perhaps wanted.
This however was not a bad thing as we got some really good information and a lot of different view points, which helped a lot. We decided to try and check what was said in the questionnaire was correct for most people, so most of our questions was based around that. We also asked about work experience, when people would want career managment skills sessions to take place and just tried to get general feedback around the career skills already in place.
Overall it was very successful!
Hope everyone is getting on okay!
Hi
ReplyDeleteWe are still getting teething problems in Buxton but we will get there. Most students went on holiday on 22nd March. We will try and arrange a group soon after Easter.
Well done Zoe and your group.
Ann
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI am writing to encourage you all to set up your focus groups. It's a challenge I know but if you can overcome this you will have a ready answer for that difficult interview question, "tell me about a problem at work and how you overcame it". Ask your tutors for help, with their encouragement students might be more encouraged to stay on after a lecture. We next meet on the 8th May. Looking forward to hearing how you have got on.
Celia
